Here’s the lowdown: the musical, a stage adaptation of the beloved 1997 film Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, will take its final bow on November 30th. The show, which has been captivating audiences at Stage 42, will have completed a total of 55 performances by the time the curtain falls.
The musical stars the talented Laura Bell Bundy and Kara Lindsay, stepping into the shoes of the original film’s dynamic duo, Romy White and Michele Weinberger, respectively played by Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow. The story, a heartwarming tale of friendship, fashion, and a little white lie, follows Romy and Michele as they concoct elaborate career stories to impress their former classmates at their high school reunion.
The Off-Broadway production also features a stellar supporting cast, including Jordan Kai Burnett as Heather Mooney, Erica Dorfler as Kelly Possenger, Michael Thomas Grant as Sandy Frink, Je’Shaun Jackson as Toby Walters, Pascal Pastrana as Billy Christianson, Lauren Zakrin as Christie Masters, and ensemble members DeMarius R. Copes and Ninako Donville.
The screenplay writer for the original film, Robin Schiff, adapted the story for the stage, ensuring the musical captures the essence of the movie’s charm. Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay penned the musical’s score, and Kristen Hanggi directed the production.
