The Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve is home to awe-inspiring scenery with a mix of larch and spruce forests, rocky cliffs, montane grasslands and mountain lakes, all with views of Mont Blanc near Chamonix and Vallorcine.

The name of the mountain range in the French Alps translates as "red needles" because of the instantly recognisable colour of its iron-rich gneiss rock. The Aiguilles Rouges cover up to 3330ha and provide incredible views of the Mont Blanc peaks.

It's an explosion of natural beauty at every turn. If you're a keen hiker or love mountain wildlife, bumping into a chamois, ibex or marmot (the local hero) is a real treat. You may even spot the majestic golden eagle if you venture above 2000m! It's a hotbed for plantlife too, with a myriad of flora including spruce trees, rhododendrons and alpine clover. The teams at the nature conservation agency work hard to protect these fragile ecosystems.

Drink in unobstructed views of the Aiguilles Rouge mountain range from the Montets pass at an altitude of 1461m. Local treasures also include Lake Blanc and the Chéserys lakes whose waters capture the reflection of Mont Blanc.
